Jean Todt, the boss of Ferrari was not surprised by the supremacy of McLaren at this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix.
McLaren’s Fernando Alonso from Spain smoothly won the race while rookie Lewis Hamilton from Britain ranked 2nd, also from McLaren.

Meanwhile, the Ferrari car of Brazilian Felipe Massa was over a minute behind and placed 3rd. Finn Kimi Raikkonen, another Ferrari driver, only managed to drive his way to the eighth place. This is due to some problems in qualifying like his starting as the 16th.

McLaren Team Principal Ron Dennis said that his drivers could have gone even faster but they opted to protect their respective positions. He uttered this despite the cozy nature of their winning.

Nonetheless, Todt did not have sour-grape of their defeat. He humbly said that from the beginning he knew the McLarens were very strong and during the Monaco Grand Prix they were much stronger. So there was no surprise that their team will get their supremacy. The Ferrari team congratulated the McLaren team and hoped to give a better round in the remaining races in the championship.

Todt further said that Felipe was very close in the qualifying. Felipe finished less than one tenth behind Hamilton. He added that another Ferrari driver, Kimi, had a qualifying problem that he was not able to go through. So he ended up in the 16th place.

Todt admitted that the McLaren team was indeed the quickest and there is no question to that.

He pointed out the problems due to slow traffic holding up faster cars on the tight twisting circuit when he was asked to explain the vast extent between McLaren and his team in Monte Carlo. He said that Felipe was right behind Hamilton during the first pit stop. Then they decided to put on softer tires. But the others stayed on the harder ones. Then Felipe took over about five laps to pass one car. Sadly, he lost 15 seconds in those five laps.

Todt said that with such incident, they already anticipated Felipe’s being in the 3rd place, unless the other two in front had a difficulty.

Raikkonen was also severely affected by the traffic. It never allowed him to start on his advantage in speed. As a result, it quickly moved him up the field. His being in the 8th place left him 15 points behind Hamilton and Alonso.

He said that he really knew he would be facing an uphill battle. He had a good start that he quickly moved to the 12th slot. But from then on, he was always in traffic making it difficult for him to grab a chance to over take. He added that he never had a clear track. It was only his strategy that worked.

Nonetheless, he was optimistic that we would not give up for he will do even better in the next rounds.
